THE LIVING ECHOES / PARTICIPATION DOCUMENTS

Rights agreement

The active agreement grants limited, non-exclusive project-use permission. Your copyright is not transferred.

Version project-license-v1 · Published 2026-10-11

Current basis: non-exclusive project-use permission

01 / Parties, materials and current status

For this agreement, “you” means the participant making the particular submission; “Liu Qiming” is the artist who initiates and maintains The Living Echoes. “Submitted materials” means the original text and files identified by that submission’s record and material identifiers. It does not include other work you have not submitted. AI-generated results and the project’s overall composition are distinct from your submitted originals.

By separately agreeing before this submission, you grant the limited, non-exclusive permission below, only to the extent of rights you actually hold and may authorize. You retain ownership of your original materials and may use, license or share them elsewhere. No copyright assignment, exclusive license, blanket transfer of personality rights or claim over third-party rights occurs.

The separate rights-transfer draft is published for legal review only. It is not incorporated into this active agreement and cannot be accepted or signed through the submission form.

02 / The permission you grant

You authorize Liu Qiming to receive, copy, store, preserve, publicly display and communicate the submitted materials as part of The Living Echoes; to use them in project interaction, documented AI processing, public exhibitions, project documentation and scholarly research; and to create necessary project-related edits, translations, arrangements or adaptations. These uses are worldwide, including internet access, because the artwork and archive are publicly accessible.

The permission is royalty-free: participation is voluntary and there is no automatic fee or payment. It begins when a submission is accepted with its separate confirmations. It continues while that submission is maintained within the project, subject to withdrawal, rights complaints, applicable law and the limited retention described in the privacy notice. It does not authorize unrelated uses or commercial exploitation of your submitted materials, including advertising, merchandising, sale or paid licensing. Those uses require a separate lawful agreement. This limit on the project’s permission does not restrict your own use of materials you still own.

Necessary service providers may process the materials solely to deliver the stated generation, hosting, storage, moderation and preservation functions under their applicable terms. This is not a general sublicensing permission for unrelated exploitation. It is not permission to use your submission for unrelated model training. Any future change of purpose requires its own notice and any consent required by law.

03 / Limits and respect for other rights

You must have permission sufficient for the uses you authorize. Copyright, performances, sound recordings, music, likeness, privacy and personal data may involve different rights and different people. You cannot grant rights you do not hold, and third-party permission is not treated as a transfer to Liu Qiming.

Rights that cannot lawfully be assigned, including applicable moral rights, remain subject to their governing law. Project edits must not falsely attribute a view to you or to Liu Qiming. Statutory exceptions and limitations, including applicable fair use or fair dealing, are preserved. Nothing in this agreement claims ownership of facts, ideas, public-domain material or legally unprotected material.

04 / Sharing and the overall artwork

Liu Qiming’s own legally protected original contributions and original selection or arrangement within the project remain his. Incorporating your material into the work does not transfer your copyright. Do not claim to be the author of the entire project or imply the artist’s endorsement.

You remain free to use and share your own original submitted materials, including for commercial purposes where you otherwise have that right. This active permission does not impose the future transfer draft’s commercial restrictions on your own originals.

To the extent Liu Qiming can lawfully authorize it, you may share the project presentation of your own contribution for non-commercial purposes, crediting “Liu Qiming, The Living Echoes” and linking to the project. Non-commercial sharing means sharing without a fee, sale, paid licensing, advertising revenue, sponsored promotion or a purpose of marketing goods or services. Commercial use of Liu Qiming’s protected project content or its original composition requires his separate written permission. This limited project-sharing permission does not confer third-party rights, guarantee rights in AI output or displace statutory uses.

05 / AI-generated results

AI responses and images are identified as generated participation in the project. They are not presented as Liu Qiming’s personal statements or existing artworks. An AI result may be inaccurate, resemble another result or contain material that raises third-party rights concerns.

No guarantee is made that AI output qualifies for copyright or exclusive protection. Any rights depend on applicable law, human contributions and the actual model provider’s terms. The project cannot grant rights it does not have. OpenAI’s allocation of output rights between its customer and itself does not establish copyright under every jurisdiction or clear third-party rights. Check the applicable law and rights before reuse, particularly for publication or commercial use.

06 / Agreement record, withdrawal and changes

The service records the applicable rules, privacy and license versions, the displayed agreement snapshot, confirmation time, anonymous session evidence and the associated submission and material identifiers. You can obtain a copy with your private participation record while your recovery credentials remain available. This evidence records a project-use permission; it is not a signed copyright assignment.

You may request an end to public display and deletion through the project’s withdrawal or private complaint channels. After a request is verified, new public project uses of the affected materials should stop; necessary restricted evidence or preservation copies may remain for the reasons and periods described in the privacy notice or required by law. Existing third-party downloads cannot be recalled by promise.

Future versions apply to new submissions after notice and fresh confirmations. The operator must not silently replace the terms recorded for earlier submissions. Any future copyright transfer requires a separately reviewed agreement and legally appropriate electronic execution. The draft does not acquire effect through a policy update alone.
