512: The Case of Xinjian Primary School

Made in June 2009, the film focuses on Xinjian Primary School in Dujiangyan, Chengdu, Sichuan. It presents on-site records of the rescue following the school’s devastating collapse during the earthquake of 12 May 2008.

The artist’s synopsis describes parents, teachers and members of the public beginning rescue efforts immediately, followed by members of the People’s Armed Police, whose efforts continued until the third day. Together with related videos and photographs downloaded from the internet, these records offer multiple perspectives on the disaster faced by the school.
