The work was made on 14 May 2016. Its title refers to 20 October 2014, a particular twenty-four-hour period in Qiming Liu’s personal experience, rather than to the year of production.

Through a personal performance recorded on video, Liu seeks to commemorate that day. The work’s introduction describes an extraordinary memory in which repression, restraint, control and resistance become apparent through the silent act of sitting.

In the note accompanying the work, Liu states that on 20 October 2014 he assisted Li Xianting, Ai Xiaoming and others in raising funds for the families of artists detained for supporting Occupy Central, and that he was himself detained as a result.
